The 2018 Brenda Clouten Memorial Travelling Scholarships for Young Achievers in Visual Arts
The 2018 Brenda Clouten Memorial Travelling Scholarships for Young Achievers in Visual Arts are now open to for young Hunter based artists, providing a unique opportunity for overseas travel and study.
The scholarships are open to current tertiary students or 2016/2017 graduates aged 30 or under from the Lower Hunter including Maitland, Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens, Cessnock, Muswellbrook and Singleton. They are awarded on the basis of artistic merit and potential, and are designed to help the recipients undertake a program of professional development in an international context.
Maitland Regional Art Gallery (MRAG) Cultural Director Brigette Uren says, ‘MRAG is excited to be partnering with Bushrangers Bar and Brassiere in presenting this scholarship program in 2018. In 2016 we had the largest pool of entrants in the scholarship’s history, and as a result the exhibition of the finalists’ work was outstanding. Our two winners have returned from travelling and making art overseas to new opportunities in their careers.
‘We are scouting for another brilliant and diverse group of finalists in 2018 and I want to encourage graduating and current students to speak to us in the coming months about their work and aspirations. With two scholarships totalling $8,000, this is a major opportunity for emerging talent in the Hunter.’
The exhibition of finalists vying for the two scholarships of $5,000, sponsored by Vicki and Bruce Woods of Bushrangers Bar and Brasserie, Largs, and $3,000, will be held at MRAG from 8 September to 3 December 2018, with the scholarship winners announced at the opening on Saturday 3 September 2018.
Submissions for the Brenda Clouten Memorial Scholarship close on Friday 8 June 2018.
