Octapod launches donation appeal with new organisational model
The launch of Octapod’s annual donation appeal marks a period of consolidation for the organisation, but also one of exciting leadership and development. With a long history of successful innovation creative projects such as This is Not Art, Urchin street magazine, Octapod Zine Library and TiN Radio (online radio station), recent years have seen the organisation move towards taking a lead role in the strategic development of the regions arts and cultural community.
New organisational model
The transition this year to this new model has largely been in response to the needs of the regions creative sector and arts communities and prompted by reduced funding from Arts NSW. Like many small to medium arts organisations across the country, we have felt the impact of a shrinking grant funding environment, so, this year has seen Octapod develop and deliver a range of services such as professional development workshops and consultations, facilitate creative sector forums and provide information, advice and referrals to artists and arts organisations to help them develop their creative practice or business, and support participation in the arts by diverse communities.
Our vision is of a thriving and inclusive creative sector that actively contributes to economic and cultural development in the Lower Hunter region and we invite support from the community to assist us to achieve this vision.
In addition to delivering This is Not Art (TiNA) over the October long weekend, managing the Culture Hunter website, delivering Smart Arts Newcastle in partnership with The Business Centre, supporting Smart Arts Port Stephens, and facilitating an Artist Run Initiative for artists with disability, our focus over the next six months will be to develop a toolkit so that we can offer relevant and practical services to the creative sector.
