Silent Disco will be presented by Tantrum Theatre as its major production of 2013. The play premiered in Sydney in 2011 to great acclaim. Here’s what the Sydney Morning Herald had to say:
Set mostly in an inner-city public school, Silent Disco focuses on a new couple Tamara and Squid, whose futures are in the balance…. Whether he’s giving voice to cynical teens, disappointed teachers or bored checkout chicks, Philpott’s dialogue crackles with veracity…The dialogue is raw and rhythmic – sometimes brutally so. Tantrum is on the lookout for committed, talented young actors for the following roles:
Tamara, non-identified female, 16 Squid, Aboriginal male, 16
Helen Petchall, non- identified female, 30-40 Dezzie, non- identified female, 18
Leanne, non- identified female, 40 Aunty, Aboriginal female, 40-50
Dane, Aboriginal male, 22 Laurence, non- identified male, 40-ish
As a youth theatre company we will be casting 15-30 year olds for the roles.
You do not have to have previous acting experience, just enthusiasm and willingness to commit to 2-3 rehearsals per week throughout June and July. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people are strongly encouraged to audition.
Auditions are taking place at 6pm on Thursday, 9 May, 2013 at Lake Macquarie Performing Arts Centre, Warners Bay. At the audition you will be expected to participate in group activities as well as prepare a short excerpt from the play, which will be distributed once your RSVP is received.
