Last year saw the inaugural Music Scholarship Award presented at Lake Macquarie Winds. The award was won by one of our talented young flautists.
We are excited that the scheme will run again this year as an encouragement for our younger players to further their music education; thereby adding to the quality of the band as a whole.
The scholarship award is, as alluded to above, aimed at assisting the continued development of music education. This may be in the form of assistance with advanced tutoring, purchase of training materials, a better quality instrument, or the such.
The award will comprise a monetary sum up to an amount of $1,000.
The award scheme is open to current and new members of Lake Macquarie Winds, who have demonstrated a commitment to the band by way of attendance at rehearsals and performances over a reasonable period of time. It is expected that the winner of the award would remain an active member of the band for a period of twelve months after presentation of the award.
Applications for consideration for the award are open until the end of school term 2, a decision will be made and announced early in school term 3.
Lake Macquarie Winds currently has 35 registered musicians; woodwind, brass and percussion. We practice on Wednesday nights from 7pm until 9pm at Valentine Public School.
