Located in the heart of Newcastle’s heritage precinct in Newcastle’s original Police Station and Lock-Up, the Lock-Up combines a museum, gallery and artist-in-residence program to create a unique destination with a range of cultural activity not offered anywhere else in Newcastle or the Hunter Valley.
The Lock-Up brings to life Newcastle’s history, celebrates its heritage and simultaneously supports and presents contemporary creative practices and engaging Newcastle’s community in the arts and providing the opportunity to discover elements of Newcastle’s post-settlement history and culture within a uncommon setting.
As a multi-arts cultural centre its facilities foster the work of visual artists, performers, writers, novelists, playwrights, architects and musicians with a calendar of activity that is as idiosyncratic as the city it resides in.
