Journeys: Maitland is my Home

Maitland Regional Museum is currently seeking nominations, including self-nominations, for up to 30 local residents who may like to participate in the Journeys:Maitland is my Home exhibition. Participants will be interviewed and photographed, and their images and stories will be displayed at the Museum. The selection criteria are as follows:

Selection criteria:

  1.   the participant is over 18 years of age and lives in Maitland or surrounds, or has a strong connection with the area
  2. the participant/s represent a broad range of national or cultural backgrounds
  3. the participant has an interesting story to tell and/or is recognised as a leader/positive role model within their community or group

Journeys: Maitland is My Homewill be on display at Maitland Regional Museum (Brough House, 71-73 Church Street, Maitland) from Sunday 2ndSeptember to Wednesday 31stOctober, 2018. Journeys seeks to track and celebrate Maitland’s rapid increase in cultural diversity, but also look back at the waves of immigration which have formed the character, culture and economy of the Hunter Valley. This history includes people from the traditional heritages of England, Scotland and Ireland, but also significant migration from places such as Poland and Calais, as well as Jewish and Chinese communities. The exhibition will highlight the living culture of the Wonnarua people, the traditional owners of the Maitland area.
