Join us on Saturday December 1st for the biggest market of the Newcastle calender- The Olive Tree Christmas Market. Think a community celebration of creativity, featuring over 180 stalls, an exciting live music line-up, free Christmas Craft activities for kids, roving street performers, and once the shopping, and sampling are done, visitors can bring along a picnic rug, and join friends and family, for a delicious brunch from our local street food purveyors.
We are really excited to have some super talented artists, designers and makers joining us on December 1st, many who only attend the Christmas market dates. It will be a day of celebration, where we thank the local community for supporting us over the last 10 years, as well as standing back and celebrating the hundreds of artist, makers, designers and musicians who have been part of the Olive Tree Market community over the last decade.
The Christmas Olive Tree Market presents visitors with the opportunity to discover an amazing variety of beautifully crafted contemporary products, all in an exciting festival market setting. There are so many reasons to shop local – visitors can discover unique gift ideas, and be assured that they can pick-up, small batch, ethically created handmade goods. Each purchase means you are supporting local artists and championing creative talent.
There is the added bonus of finding a Christmas gifts that you know will be unique or Christmas day, that you will be contributing to the local economy, and making a stand against mass produced goods, all in the cultural heart of Newcastle. Prudence De Marchi
Meet local artist Prudence De Marchi. Having been a painter on and off for the past 10 years, balancing her practice with her career as a teacher – AND being a new Mum – Prudence has come full circle and dived full on into her first passion of painting. The artist works mostly iN acrylics on canvas, and her work is complemented beautifully by hand made Tasmanian Oak frames built by her husband. If there is someone in your life, who loves vibrant contemporary art featuring florals, and abstract shapes, then this is the stall to visit for Christmas ideas!

Maya Queenan is the incredible textile artist, behind beautiful homewares brand Maya Muse Textiles. After living and working in London as a textile designer, Maya returned home with fresh eyes. The light, foliage, expansive landscapes of Australia, and a desire for creative freedom, inspired her to establish her own brand. Maya’s collections are made the old fashioned way; screen printed by hand, using mixed inks & beautiful 100% linen. These traditional techniques & natural fibers work perfectly to complement modern, Australian inspired prints in a delicious palette that we think any home wares lover will adore.

One of Olive Tree’s most unique and popular artists, Ellie Hannon, will be returning to Olive Tree on December 1st, with her incredible clay jewellery collections. It is hard to sum up the work of Ellie in a few words – her artistic practice spans across the fields of drawing, painting and ceramics, in her truly distinctive and recognisable style. Over the past few years her artwork has evolved in many ways – from doing large scale murals and sell-out exhibitions to teaching workshops and ceramics classes. Don’t forget that there is FREE Parking at the Newcastle City Council Car Park- 92 King Street, Newcastle.
