Call for nominations: Octapod Access Committee

Octapod is seeking nominations to form the inaugural Octapod Access Committee. This Committee will be responsible for providing advice and guidance regarding the development of Octapod‘s Creative Access Program in line with our Disability Action Plan and will be a sub-committee of the Octapod Board.

Octapod supports the philosophy of ‘nothing about us, without us’ and therefore advocates for people with disability in key leadership roles within the organisation.

We are seeking five nominations including four artists who identify as having a disability or mental illness and one arts or community industry representatives. You will have an interest in inclusive arts practice, live or work in the Lower Hunter and have an understanding of the philosophy and mission of Octapod and the Creative Access Program.  These are voluntary positions.

The Committee will comprise of:
– One Octapod Board member
– Octapod Director
– Octapod Project Manager – Development
– Four practicing artists with disability
– One arts or community industry representative

The Committee will meet quarterly for 2 hours to provide strategic advice and guidance to ensure that Octapod‘s Creative Access Program meets the needs of local artists with disability, arts, cultural and community organisations and the broader Lower Hunter community.

Octapod has been working across arts and disability since 2010, and developed a Creative Access Program in 2013. In that year we also developed a Disability Action Plan. We have been active since that time in supporting career development for artists with disability by facilitating pathways into mainstream arts opportunities, supporting arts organisations to develop inclusive arts programs and advocating for arts and cultural participation for diverse communities.
