Artisan Collective looking for new space

Artisan Collective is currently looking for a new space! If you have one in mind, contact Anna Webster on 0414 672 252.

Artisan Collective is a group of local professional artists from the Port Stephens region. The collective is proficient across two core activities; creating and selling unique, locally made works AND activating dead spaces.

Locally made products

The artisans of Artisan Collective create pieces that contribute to the identity and spirit of our local culture. Works are inclusive of a variety of mediums from naturally dyed scarves to oil paintings, photographs, ceramics, mosaic and charcoal drawings.

Transforming dead spaces into creative places

For the last 10 months, Artisan Collective was located on Magnus Street in Nelson Bay’s CBD, where they transformed an empty shop (was an internet café many moons ago) into a culturally vibrant gallery shop. Walking around the Artisan Collective shop offered the local community and visiting passers-by with an experience to connect with the beauty and quirks of local art. Shoppers found themselves unable to break a gaze with a subject of a painting, or captivated by the beauty of an illustration or impressed with the capture of a perfect moment in one of the photographs.

The beginnings of Artisan Collective surfaced out of the 2016 Port Stephens Smart Arts program; a partnership between Port Stephens Council, Octapod and The Business Centre Newcastle. The focus on transforming dead spaces into creative places was modelled off Renew Newcastle.

The ‘Renew’ model transforms an empty shop space that has struggled to gain tenancy. Under a licencing agreement, the creative occupiers inject vibrancy and life back into the space, and the outcome often leads to paying tenancy in future.
