Adamstown Arts is the visual and performing arts program supported by the Adamstown Uniting Church. A home for the Arts in the Hunter Region, offering regular events and exhibitions and hosting a variety of community groups, exploring life, creativity and justice through music, performance and visual expression.
The wonderful acoustics of the Adamstown Uniting Church auditorium, along with its 6′ Yamaha Grand attract many artists, choirs and organisations to choose it as a concert venue, including the Newcastle Music Festival, and local and international musicians.
The Dungeon, the historic home of Dungeon Jazz and the Dungeon Big Band, is also home to Expresso (fourth Sunday of the month live music and Q&A event in the Dungeon), regular live poetry readings, community theatre and music gigs.
Passionate about social justice and inclusion, Adamstown Arts regularly hosts events with this focus, and provides a home for community fundraisers and events supporting issues of social justice and the environment.
Spaces available to rent for arts and community events include the Church Auditorium, Memorial Hall, Barnes Meeting Room, Dungeon performance space, The Bright Ideas room (Children’s activity room) and two Commercial Kitchens. These kitchens can be hired in conjunction with a room booking, or hired separately – for food preparation for catering/markets etc. All spaces are air-conditioned and the Church Auditorium and Dungeon performance space feature professional lighting and sound desks.
