Location

Matilda joined the Sydney scene in late 2010 after graduating from ANU where she studied under internationally acclaimed vocalists Kristin Berardi and Vince Jones.

Her compositions reflect a thoughtful approach to writing and a true desire to create something of beauty with a clear artistic conscience. She takes inspiration from a wide range of sources including contemporary New York jazz musicians as well as from popular and alternative musics.

Vocally, Matilda brings a bright and open sound to her compositions. Her expression and phrasing give an added level of depth and honesty to the lyrics and therefore to the music overall.

Accompanied by an energetic cast of some of Australia's top young musicians, the band delivers Matilda's music with an exciting intensity. Matilda's quintet features Carl Morgan (guitar), Harry Sutherland (piano), Thomas Botting (bass) and James Waples (drums).
