Location

 If you’re under 18 and can piece together 500 words then this competition is for you. Hunter Writers Centre’s Young Writers Competition is open to anyone under 18 years living in the Hunter or Central Coast region. The theme is open (so you can write on any topic). Entries must be 500 words or less. This competition is the perfect warm up for the upcoming National Young Writers Festival which has a FREE 3 day workshop for young writers aged 14 – 17

500 word writing competition prizes: 

1st prize: $50 gift voucher from MacLean’s bookstore, books from Hunter Writers Centre and a certificate.

2nd prize: $30 gift voucher from MacLean’s bookstore, books from Hunter Writers Centre and a certificate.

To enter: email your story to hunterwriterscentre@gmail.com by midnight Friday, 21st of September. Please include your full name, a contact number and email.  

Terms and conditions:

1.     Entry is free. 
2.     Entrants must be under 18 years of age. 
3.     Entrants must live in the Hunter or Central Coast region. 
4.     Stories must be no more than 550 words. 
5.     There is a maximum of 2 entries per author. 
6.     Entries to be submitted via email: hunterwriterscentre@gmail.com
7.     All entries must be received by midnight Friday the 21st of September. 
8.     The judge’s decision is final; no correspondence may be entered into.
9.     By entering you agree that the following terms and conditions apply to your participation in the ‘Hunter Writers Centre 500 word’ writing competition held online until Friday 21st September.
