Bingo was the name Gordon Matta Clark gave to the 1974 performance-based deconstruction of a suburban house in Niagara Falls, New York. Cutting the facade of the house into nine equal rectangles, he removed each until only the central rectangle remained. The deconstruction resembling a Bingo card, a popular game in Niagara Falls at the time, and which gave its name to the installation.
The works in this exhibition look at the surfaces of human habitation, in detail and as text. The surfaces of urban space are marked by their interaction with the public and in doing so tells its own history.
