SPEAKERS
Harvest Textiles is a team of four women who share a passion for quality handmade textiles, the joy of learning, community and sustainability. Founded in founded in January 2010 by Jess Wright, Emma Byrnes and Lara Davies, they were joined in early 2011 by Frances Wilson.
Harvest Textiles produces a range of hand screenprinted clothing, homewares and accessories which is all designed and printed on their 10 meter print table, using organic, recycled or locally produced fabrics where possible to reduce their environmental impact. They are passionate about creating products that are not mass produced and instead handmake all their product.
They are also compelled to impart these skills to other like-minded people in the community. From their studio, Harvest Workroom in East Brunswick, Melbourne, they run screenprinting and textile workshops, host guest talks, seminars, exhibitions, pop-up shops and collaborate with other designers on dynamic projects with a communal focus.
ABOUT CREATIVE TALKS
Renew Newcastle presents Creative Talks, a series of breakfast lectures by people who are making a living from their creativity. Taking place on a Friday morning each month for three months (beginning September 2012) a well-regarded creative will be invited to speak for 30 minutes about the lessons they have learnt growing their art into a commercial success.
This will be followed by an audience Q&A and the opportunity to mingle with local creatives from a wide range of backgrounds. Attendance is free and breakfast (coffee, tea, pastries and fruit) is provided.
