With the Christmas season fast approaching Singleton’s women’s harmony
singing group is gearing up for performing in the town’s annual Christmas
carol concerts. For most in the group this will be their first public performance,
but they are looking forward to joining with other singers to showcase some
carols not often heard. The group’s musical director, Sarah Lukeman, has
been searching for harmony arrangements of carols from different countries
and eras to complement the well-known and loved ones that everyone can
sing along with. “Most of the women in Singleton Harmony have never sung
before, let alone performed” said Wendell Peacock, Community Development
Co-ordinator, “and we are excited to be able to join in with the community’s
celebration of Christmas”.
Singleton Harmony meets on Thursdays from 1-3pm at Singleton Youth
Venue, and sessions will commence again, after the school holidays, on 11
October. The project receives funding from the Country Arts Support
Program, and child-minding is provided. Anyone who would like to join in to
learn to sing some beautiful harmony arrangements of carols, is welcome to
come along – the more the merrier!
For those who would prefer an evening timeslot, the Singleton Singers are
also about to start rehearsing carols, from Tuesday 9 October at the Salvation
Army hall in York Street, 7.30-9.30pm.
