One of the biggest, and most accessible events of the festival is the TINA Sunday Fair Zine and Artists Market, which is presented by TINA and the National Young Writers Festival.
Sunday Fair Organizer Justine Gaudry said’ TINA is the largest gathering of young & innovate writers in Australia both in new and traditional forms. The TINA Sunday Fair showcases some of the country’s most talented zinesters, bloggers, comic makers, illustrators and photographers.
Ms Gaudry said ‘For those who don’t know zine is short for fanzine and for all intensive purposes a zine is a cheaply made cheaply priced publication, often in black and white, which is printed in small runs, produced by photocopier and staples and often focuses on the independent, under ground DYI artists community.
Ms Gaudry Said ‘ Zines can be incredibly beautiful small works of art with illustration, photographs, images, poetry and all forms of the written word. The Sunday Fair also talented features artists, designers, fashion and creators of all things innovative!
Some of the stallholders at TINA Sunday Fair will include:
Talented illustrator and Graphic Designer Mia Brown known for her blog The Snail and The Teacup where she showcases her quirky illustrations and prints, tells stories, post photographs and is generally all round creative.
Mechelle B’s zines are little art works full of beautiful and ironic illustrations influenced by her love of all things vintage children’s books from the 1940s. Her new zine Night Of a Thousand Tears focuses on Mechelle’s belief that children see and feel things that adults don’t and this intimacy shows in the colour, texture and layers of her work
Local painter Victoria Lobregat who is undertaking her Masters of Natural History Illustration at Newcastle University will sell her zine Animal Matters which focus on her interest in art, animals and vintage culture.
Popular local illustrator and designer Trevor Dickinson Of Newcastle Productions will sell his zines, drawings, illustrations and tea towels! Trevor recently painted a number of large murals in Newcastle.
There will also be popular zine stores like Smells Like Zine Distro, Take Care Zine Distro, the Sticky Institute and the Format Collective that come to Newcastle for TINA from Melbourne, Adelaide and Toowoomba.
The Sunday Fair will be held in the Concrete Monolith that is the NCC King St Carpark. Ms Gaudry said’ The NCC King St Car park is located in a fantastic part of Newcastle with each floor offering glimpses of the city and the working harbour. What lots of people don’t know is that the rooftop on Level 7 offers one of the best 360 degrees views of the city.
The Sunday Fair will have a chillout zone on Level 7 with lots of food stalls, performance, poetry, music and more! Bring a picnic rug and cushion and enjoy an afternoon in the sun. Food Stalls include: Vietnamese, Woodfired Pizza, Turkish, Spanish, Mexican and Coffee & Cupcakes.
