NAIDOC Celebrations in Singleton
The Singleton NAIDOC Week Committee of which Singleton Council is a member has organised this year’s NAIDOC week celebrations. The event will be held on Saturday 30th June from 10am.
This year the event will start with the official flag raising outside the council chambers and then continue on at the Singleton Library for a fun filled morning that will include; Black Screen Films, Last Kinection performing and running workshops, didgeridoo playing, storytelling, face painting, school art work displays, indigenous food tasting, morning tea and a BBQ.
This year’s event see’s two big new program items that the committee is excited to present. The National Film and Sound Archive – Black Screen has generously provided Aboriginal movies that will be on through the day including “Minnie Loves Junior” and “Big Fella”. Last Kinection an Indigenous Hip Hop group will be performing on the day as well as running workshops for those who wish to participate.
Wendell Peacock Acting Manager Community and Cultural Services says “this year’s event will have something for everyone, school children will be able to see their art work on display and join in with the many other activities during the day”. Wendell also wanted to “acknowledge the hard work done by the Singleton NAIDOC week committee in pulling together such a great program.”
The whole community is invited to attend and to join in with the celebrations and activities of the day.
