CASE STUDY: Lake Macquarie Performing Arts Centre
Located across from the beautiful lake foreshore at Warners Bay, the Lake Macquarie Performing Arts Centre is a venue where people can enjoy concerts, plays, musicals, and other quality live productions.
What is your venue used for?
Our Centre is used for a range of activities from Film Nights, Eisteddfods, Dance & Song Concerts to Cultural Performances, Displays, auctions as well as conferences, book and CD Launches and Operas and Musical Productions.
What are some of the features and facilities of the space?
The Centre has a lovely aesthetic outlook over a park and the lake, as well as being in close proximity to many cafes and restaurants. Inside the centre it is a well-maintained and appointed facility with a seating capacity of up to 300. We have a pre-set lighting system for your concert as well as a drop down screen for films and connectivity to your laptop for conferences. The seating system is two-part with raised tiered seating for 110 people at the back and more seating on the floor that can be configured to suit your purpose.
What is unique about this venue?
Its location and versatility make this venue unique and ensures that it is used for a wide range of activities.
What are some examples of past or current exhibitions/performances/events held in this space?
Currently we have Livesites in the Centre running a School Holiday Program, which has proven to be very popular. We have recently held the following in the centre:
Belmont Lantern Club – Dance Eisteddfod
Lake Macquarie Music Society – Choral Festival
ANOS (Australian Native Orchid Society) – Spring Festival and Auction
Opera Hunter – Carmen
NAIDOC Week – Film Night
We also have the following exciting events coming up:
Friends of the Regal – Film Series – 3, 10 & 17 September 2011
Lake Macquarie Eisteddfod – Musical - September
Bandfest – October
Musical Performances by Waratah Brass, Orchestra Nova & Cardiff Northlakes Band
End of year concerts by local dance, talent and music schools
What has been a highlight event at your venue?
It would be hard to pinpoint one but the use by Livesites and the Theatrical performances by Opera Hunter would have to be up there as well as waiting in anticipation for the Film Series with the Friends of the Regal, which is a newly formed partnership with LMCC.
Do you offer any particular services to artists/performers/community groups that utilise your space?
We offer a not for profit rate for local community and cultural groups so that the centre is an affordable option for their performance, event or display.
How would you like to see this venue develop in the future?
For now the centre is heavily booked for usage appropriate to its design and function, it would be great if we could attract more partnerships with local theatrical groups to provide more live theatre performances open to the community. As well as holding more themed cultural film nights to provide entertainment and education to a broad cross- section of the community.
