Call for volunteers for the Fair Share Festival
Call for volunteers for the Fair Share Festival
The Fair Share Festival is only 4 weeks away (9-11 March 2012) and we are looking for volunteers who can help out.
There is a range of ways you can become involved.
Participate in Slum Survivor
Every day, over one billion people on our planet have to survive in the growing slums in many of the world’s cities. Toilets may be non-existent, or shared between hundreds of people. Piped water is a luxury that people living in slums can’t afford – water is generally collected from a communal tap or pump or even bought from water vendors at high prices. This is reality for over a billion people on our planet. Imagine if it was your reality.
During the Festival, 10 brave contestants aged 18-25 will build and live in their own slum house (built out of basic discarded materials) for 48 hours, eat simple food, face restrictions in what clothing and personal items they can bring and compete in challenges that simulate aspects of slum life. If you are interested, contact Bronwyn Grieve (4967 6434 or greiveandcommunity@hotmail.com).
Help with IT and Video
We hope to video, webcast and/or record some of the sessions and are looking for people with interest in helping, and relevant experience. We are also looking for people who can help with photography. Contact John Shiel on (0419296 103 jafshiel@gmail.com). See the call for IT and Video volunteers.
Put your social media expertise to good use.
We are looking for social media addicts (or at least people who enjoying using them) who could help promote the Festival through social media and the web. We also hope we will have people able to do live blogs, facebook updates and tweets throughout the festival.
Volunteer at the festival
We need many volunteers over the weekend to help make it a success. You could help with setting up, answering questions, staffing the gates, and generally helping ensure it all runs smoothly. Contact Dee Brooks (4921 6845 or dee.brooks@newcastle.edu.au).
Have a stall
If you are interested in having a stall that fits in with our themes they are free for not for profits, $10 for commercial stalls not charging GST and $50 for stalls that charge GST. Contact David Jack (david.jack@det.nsw.edu.au).
It’s not too late to help organise the festival
Let us know if you would like to help with the final stages of planning and organising. Contact Graeme Stuart (4921 7241 or graeme.stuart@newcastle.edu.au) or Liza Pezzano (4960 0325 or lizapezzano@hotmail.com).
Keep an eye on the festival webpage for more ways you can become involved (http://fairsharefestival.wordpress.com/get-involved/).

On Saturday there will be stalls, entertainment, speakers, panels, discussion and workshops including:
