Lake Macquarie

As one of the largest cities in New South Wales, Lake Macquarie is also the Hunter’s largest city, and accounts for approximately 37% of the Hunter’s population. Encompassing the large saltwater Lake Macquarie, which lays both physically and mentally at the heart of the community, the strikingly beautiful region is also surrounded by the Watagan Mountains, which provides a dramatic backdrop and a striking natural contrast. Lake Macquarie City Council plays a wide and varied role in facilitating cultural development in the local area.
