Sally Bourke & Nicole Chaffey: Yarn
1-18 November 2017

Please join the artists for the exhibition opening
Saturday 4 NOV from 1.30PM
Since their first meeting at the Woolshed studios in Wickham in 2010, Sally Bourke and Nicole Chaffey have shared art space. A new studio collective established in Georgetown in 2012 is where they remain, surrounded by a tight knit community of fellow artists.

Yarn is a visual conversation between two established practices, and the first time that Bourke and Chaffey have exhibited together.

Chaffey interprets the Australian landscape in acknowledgment of an ancient connection to Country. Stories have been inherited from her Biripai grandfather which coalesce with lived experience in intimate and intuitive abstractions.

Bourke manifests her own connection to the Australian bush. Contained within her characters is a narrative of preservation and annihilation; “of killing one thing to love another”, and compelling interrogation of the human spirit.

Yarn unites these painters in a campaign to challenge the limits of the painted surface interlaced with questions of personal identity, connectivity, history and human nature.
