Born in Scotland, as a teenager, played in Scots comedies and appeared as Danny, in Emlyn Williams’ Night Must Fall. After emigrating to Newcastle, sang folk, blues, and with jazz bands. Appeared with Cherry Anderson Players in Taste of Honey and Macbeth. Was resident folk and blues artist on NBN.
In PNG, appeared in Annie Get Your Gun and wrote and directed a melodrama, Rawbottome’s Revenge (mentored by Michael Billington (now noted UK theatre critic). Began career in visual arts and organized a major exhibition of arts & crafts in Madang.
Returned to Australia as a visual arts teacher. Jamie mounted Everywhere in Chains Postal Art Show in Dubbo and Primal Pictures Centred Vision, a solo exhibition of paintings and drawings at Grafton Regional Gallery. Musical performances followed in festivals at Woodford, Bellingen, Lismore, Wauchope, Grafton with Southside Blues Band, The Blues Shakers, and Posh-Rat. His one-man show Jimmie Storey’s Romani Road (the history of Gypsies in song and story) toured NSW and Victoria. He also made two guest appearances in the Konkurso Romano Amal touring festival in Italy.
Jamie’s art works are in private and public collections worldwide. He has awards for poetry, literature, art and music from PNG and Italy. His poetry has appeared in magazines and anthologies in Australia, the USA, PNG, Italy and in the UK PEN Anthology, The Roads of the Roma.
