Dungeon Jazz Club
Location
The Dungeon Jazz club is the home of contemporary jazz (now called modern jazz) in Adamstown, Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. The venue is in the Dungeon Room, where jazz musicians can perform to a dedicated lietening audience in an intimate setting. Gigs are held on the first Thursday of the month, with a modest charge to cover the musicians costs.
The Dungeon Jazz Club prides itself in providing opportunities for both up and coming young jazz musicians and local bands, and to this end, has developed 'Discovery Gigs' – allowing individual musicians the chance to jam with a professional group; and 'Jazzcomp'– where amateur musicians and bands compete for prizes.
Dungeon Jazz club started in 1997 as a project of the Adamstown Uniting Church and is now a members club. It has presented many of Australia's finest musicians such as Bruce Mathiske, Mike Nock, Paul McNamara, Julie Wilson, Terence Koo, Sax Blue and more. The Dungeon Big Band was formed from 18 local professional musicians and performs twice a year for the club.
